Classmate profile final draft

Kathie Pham, 21, majoring in public relations is the first to attend college and receive education in her family.

Pham's greatest insecurity is her big smile because of her crooked teeth and braces.

"I remember overhearing the dentist tell my father that his six-year-old daughter was sure to need braces in the future and ever since I've been embarrassed to smile," said Pham.

The biggest accomplishment she did was saving up money for the surgery by herself because she knew her family couldn't afford it.

" Knowing that my family's only source of income was welfare, I started working the moment I was able to and saved up $5000 and went to see an orthodontist to get my braces," said Pham.

She didn’t learn how to drive just until a year ago because of her eye problem.

“I lost a tissue in my right eye which caused problems to my eye sight. I wasn’t able to see at all from the right side of my eye but I was able to learn how to drive stick for my first time driving,” said Pham.

When her vision on the right eye got fixed she was able to drive and get her license but every time she drives, she experiences nervousness.

Pham's most influential person in her life is her best friend Amy Truong.

"She's been there for a huge part of my life and she's taught me right from wrong and always provided support when I needed it the most, " said Pham.

Pham graduated from Andrew hill High school and decided to transfer to San Jose State University because she didn’t want to deal with transferring and getting to know a new city.

She is ethnically from Vietnam but was born and raised in San Jose, CA and is currently living in East side, San Jose.

She is the eldest and has one younger sister that goes to De Anza College.

On her free time, she likes to go shopping at Forever 21 and H&M at Valley Fair mall.

“When I don’t feel like going out shopping, I like to stay at home and watch shows about parks and recreation on Netflix,” said Pham.

“I also like to watch anime shows or read manga. My favorite anime show is Boku no academia which I really enjoy,” said Pham.

Pham has been working at a bobba tea store called Gong Cha for two years.

Since she is the eldest sibling, she supports her family with paying rent and bills.

Pham is always optimistic and puts her loved ones ahead of her first while trying to please everyone else.

“She is a genuinely nice person always doing small nice things for everyone and her friends despite her upbringing, “said Steven Le, her boyfriend.

“She likes to read romance stories and is really into makeup,” said Le.

Pham doesn't like people who only pretend to be a close friend.

"I hate when a person gossips about me behind my back and when they talk behind your back. These people are hypocrites and i dislike that, " said Pham.

"She hates facial fair and people who treat others unfairly in our society," said Le.

Her favorite movie genre is horror and she likes the scary movies Get Out and The Conjuring.
